A Guide To Additional Insert Cards For Your Invitation Suite

Websites, RSVPs, accommodations, schedules, maps... details galore! How does one organize and communicate all the additional event information for a wedding?

There are a great variety of cards that are often included in addition to your main invite. These cards span many different practical purposes and the most appropriate options vary according to the unique nature of your event. Including them in your invitation suite is the most direct, accessible, and surefire way to ensure your guests receive all the information you want them to.

The most common additional card included in an invite suite is usually referred to as a Details Card.

This card contains brief information or event details such as your wedding website, schedule information, etc. Couples collecting RSVPs (as opposed to traditional RSVP mail) often opt to include their RSVP website link and RSVP deadline on their details card, rather than have a separate RSVP card.

An RSVP card is a specific type of additional card that's meant to be physically filled out by your guests to indicate their attendance, # of people in their party, and meal choices.

This more traditional inclusion usually also includes an RSVP envelope, which is used to mail back the completed RSVP card to the couple. Couples often find that guests from older generations prefer the old-fashioned method of RSVPing.

Occasionally, couples will opt for further card additions, such as an Accommodations Card, Venue Map, Weekend Guide, or Travel Guide. These cases are more common for destination weddings where many of the guests are expected to be traveling or for longer wedding celebrations that span over a weekend.

Couples that plan to book out blocks or obtain codes for multiple different hotels may use Accommodations Cards to lay out the options.

Couples that are getting married at venues that can be challenging to navigate to, are larger with varying locations, or are relatively remote — historical estates, inclusive resorts, etc.— may use a Venue Map to ensure the smooth and timely arrival of their guests while highlighting the beauty of the venue.

Couples that have multiple events spanning over several days, such as rehearsal dinners, group activities, tours or hiking trails, morning-afters, etc. may include a Weekend Guide to clearly list out time, date, and location for each event, which reduces on-site confusion and generates a lot of excitement for the big event.

For couples that have all their guests staying at the same accommodations, The Weekend Guide is often included in day-of materials instead, showing up in their rooms when they arrive.

Couples that anticipate their guests to be traveling will sometimes include a Travel Guide to take the opportunity to recommend favorite activities in the area or spotlight local highlights.
