B & M’S Modern Renaissance Wedding in a New York Carriage House

It all starts a vision of a Renaissance-inspired event in the heart of New York City. Set in a candlelit carriage house — once the abode of the infamous founding father Aaron Burr —this decadent invitation suite combined the opulence of the Rococo era with the modern hearts of our contemporary couple.

Featuring an ornamental frame adapted from the cover of a German baptism box, our invitation design was inspired by 18th century metal type printing— on the very same machines utilized for specialty printing like letterpress printing and foil printing today. We opted for a deep antique bronze foil, accompanied by a plum letterpress print that echoes the amethyst envelope. We layered a delicate vellum, featuring a luminous sky from Rococo painter Francois Boucher. The addition of a lush olive green tassel transforms the entire card into a bookmark with both old world charm and a subtle oriental flair.
